Yesterday, N‑able posted an advisory to our Uptime Page regarding exploitation against our N‑central platform

    N-able Status: N-central 2026.3 Hotfix 1 - Mitigation for CVE-2026-18577CuratedQuote verified

N-able was recently made aware of a security issue affecting all N-central instances not running 2026.3.1

Hotfix 1 (build 2026.3.1.7, 'Posted on August 2, 2026') was titled by N-able a 'Mitigation for CVE-2026-18577'. Under R1 it is recorded as a workaround, not a fix, because N-able later said Hotfix 2 'is required, even if you already applied the earlier hotfix'. CVE-2026-18556 had been 'fixed in 2026.2' per N-able, but that fix was bypassable.

    N-able Status: N-central 2026.3 Hotfix 2 - Additional Mitigation for CVE-2026-18577 (August 6, 2026)CuratedQuote verified

This is not a duplicate of our previous communication — Hotfix 2 is required, even if you already applied the earlier hotfix.

Post 'Posted on August 6, 2026', build 2026.3.1.10, 'supersedes N-central 2026.3 Hotfix 1'. First release N-able treats as sufficient; no later statement says it is incomplete for this CVE (HF3/HF4 in September fixed different CVEs, per Huntress). Kevin Beaumont posted at 2026-08-06T23:59Z: 'New hot fix just published today.'

How we built this timeline

Grouped: CVE-2026-18577 is N-able's 'incomplete patch' bypass of CVE-2026-18556, both exploited in the same publicly reported campaign (admin access to N-central, Take Control sessions, Cloudflare tunnels; N-able blog and Huntress).

Primary CVE is CVE-2026-18577 because N-able's hotfix advisories lead with it and KEV listed it first (3 Aug 2026; CVE-2026-18556 listed 4 Aug 2026).

N-able says it first noticed abnormal licensing activity on 31 Jul 2026 and identified the new vector on the morning of 2 Aug 2026. Severity/CVSS: N-able's CNA CVSS 4.0 score is 8.2 for both CVEs (NVD v3.1: 7.4 and 8.1).

The N-able blog's dates are internally inconsistent (title August 2, byline August 3rd); reviewers should treat the Vendor statement moment as 1 Aug 2026 with day precision. Later, separate N-central incidents: CVE-2026-86206/86207 (HF3, not in KEV) and n-able-cve-2026-86218 (HF4).

CORRECTION PASS 23 Oct 2026 (R1, R6): First fix and Fixed for all versions moved from Hotfix 1 (2 Aug 2026) to Hotfix 2 (6 Aug 2026), because N-able says HF2 'is required, even if you already applied the earlier hotfix'; HF1 is kept as a Workaround candidate (N-able titled it a 'Mitigation'). exploited before a fix=true is unchanged (exploitation reported 1 Aug 2026).

R7: CVE-2026-18556 and CVE-2026-18577 were disclosed one day apart, so grouping holds.
