No brief for this incident yet. We write one for every open incident and every critical bug exploited before a fix.

Affected products

  • Linux kernel 5.4 up to 5.4.286, 5.10.230, 5.15.173, 6.1.119, 6.6.63, 6.11.10, 6.12.1 (also 4.19.84 and later 4.19 releases via backport)
How we built this timeline

Kernel moment model: vendor/world = the kernel CNA's CVE publication (first security-labelled public signal); First fix = first stable or mainline release containing the fix (R2: counts even though it precedes the CVE);

Fixed for all versions = the last of the stable/LTS releases the CVE record lists as fixed (R6: provided every then-supported affected line is listed). Release dates come from kernel.org ChangeLog files.

The fix was public in stable releases before the CVE was published, so exposure is zero. Downstream lag (Android, distributions) is not graded here.

Exploitation was reported after the fix: Android's 1 Apr 2025 bulletin lists CVE-2024-53150 and CVE-2024-53197 as 'under limited, targeted exploitation', and CISA added both to KEV on 9 Apr 2025. Amnesty's Cellebrite report names CVE-2024-53197 but not CVE-2024-53150, so this is its own incident (see linux-kernel-cve-2024-53197 and linux-kernel-cve-2024-53104); it may belong to the same chain, which a reviewer could check.

CVSS 7.1 is the CISA-ADP / NVD score.
