No brief for this incident yet. We write one for every open incident and every critical bug exploited before a fix.

Affected products

  • Linux kernel USB Video Class driver (uvcvideo) and HID core, before 4.19.324, 5.4.286, 5.10.230, 5.15.172, 6.1.117, 6.6.61, 6.11.8, 6.12.1
How we built this timeline

Kernel moment model: vendor/world = the kernel CNA's CVE publication (first security-labelled public signal); First fix = first stable or mainline release containing the fix (R2: counts even though it precedes the CVE);

Fixed for all versions = the last of the stable/LTS releases the CVE record lists as fixed, provided every then-supported affected line is listed (R6). Release dates come from the kernel.org ChangeLog files (the 'Linux <version>' release commit).

Downstream lag (Android, distributions) is not graded here. Grouping (R7): Amnesty International (28 Feb 2025) says Google researchers identified 'at least three zero-day vulnerabilities likely exploited as part of this Cellebrite exploit chain' (CVE-2024-53104, CVE-2024-53197, CVE-2024-50302) and that it 'first found traces of this Cellebrite USB exploit used in a separate case in mid-2024'.

CVE-2024-50302 (CVE published 19 Nov 2024) and CVE-2024-53104 (2 Dec 2024) were disclosed 13 days apart and fixed in the same 14 Nov 2024 stable releases, so they stay one incident. CVE-2024-53197 (CVE published 27 Dec 2024, fixes 5 Dec 2024..14) was disclosed more than 14 days later and is now its own incident, linux-kernel-cve-2024-53197 (correction pass 23 Oct 2026). exploited before a fix=true (R4): exploitation began in mid-2024, before the November 2024 fixes, although it was only made public afterwards (Android bulletin 1 Feb 2025, Amnesty 28 Feb 2025); exposure is zero because nothing was public before the fixes.

KEV dates: CVE-2024-53104 5 Feb 2025, CVE-2024-50302 4 Mar 2025 (kev_added holds the primary's date). Severity 7.8 is the CISA-ADP score for CVE-2024-53104 (CVE-2024-50302: 5.5).
