The Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) is aware of malicious use of the vulnerability that is described in this advisory.

Disclosed with fixes in v1.0 (First Published 2024 October 23 16:00 GMT; the only version). The advisory links the bug to the password-spraying campaign Cisco Talos described earlier ('Large-scale brute-force activity targeting VPNs, SSH services with commonly used login credentials'); that post did not identify this vulnerability, so it is not counted as the world signal.

How we built this timeline

Exploited at disclosure (Cisco aware of malicious use in the password-spray campaign); part of the October 2024 semiannual ASA/FMC/FTD bundled publication. Fixed for all versions omitted: no per-train fixed releases in the advisory (Software Checker only); status 'patched' because the advisory has had no revisions since v1.0 claiming fixed software.

Found during the resolution of a Cisco TAC support case. Severity follows the CVSS base score 5.8 (medium).
